DMV’s Diamonds in The Rough

It's obvious the DMV has an enormous amount of potential. Though the area is not as big as New York or L.A., the music industry has been paying close attention to the artists coming up.

The DMV landed two spots on the 2015 XXL Freshman Class: Shy Glizzy and Gold Link. The area is progressing fast.

With that said, there are a couple of artist we should be keeping our eye on. These artists are going to push the DMV to places it has never been.

Phil Ade

Phil Ade is an artist not afraid to show off his versatility. The rapper teamed up with another buzzing DMV artist Chaz French for this song “Way Too Much”

The song incorporates a catchy hook and a great verse from both artists with solid harmonization. Recently, the rapper announced that he has a couple of projects in store for us this year. With a song like this, I can only be excited for anything he has coming.

Ezko released a solid EP last month titled "Sleep". The EP showed off his lyrical skill and gave off good vibes throughout.

On this track “Suicide Doors”, Og-Dutchmaster and Nickelus F lay down verses which compliment the smooth instrumental.  The chorus is one of my favorite parts, giving off the feeling of driving down a street in a drop top blowing some good dope.

BOOMscat is a duo composed of two very talented women Asha Santee, “Boom”, and Patience Rowe, “Scat”. Their music falls into categories such as R&B, Soul, and Neo-soul. Their latest project is their sophomore EP "No Life Jacket"

The project shows off their peaceful voices and ability to create great soul music in an area that seems to be focusing mainly on Hip Hop. “Alright” is sure to have you feeling uplifted.

Bond St. District

Bond St. District is a duo composed of rapper, DDm, and producer Paul Hutson. They dropped their debut EP last year “Everybody So Sleep”. The EP highlights topics people tend to “sleep” on and not address directly.

Their latest track “Terror Era” has a great instrumental that DDm goes in on. He talks about the unjust killings cops have been doing as well as the killings around the world we ignore in an entertaining fashion.

Checking out their other songs would be a great use of time, this duo has a variety of sounds for different people.
